The Shine Team is a service which supports children in mainstream school settings who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We work with both boys and girls aged between 4 and 18. We are a school service offering training to staff or specific work with pupils. This may be in the form of 1:1 work with a student or running small groups e.g. to support social skills or transition years. We also lead class talks to help the class understand why people are different.
Our service is a free service to mainstream schools supported by RBWM. The amount of support time that you are allocated is dependent on the number of pupils you have in your school with a formal diagnosis of ASD. A child with a diagnosis, but no statement will receive one short visit per term, whereas a child with a statement of special educational need is entitled to fortnightly visits. Your outreach worker will liaise with the school directly on the amount of the hours of support that they are able to offer you.
